Move-out / utilities closure

Close an SP utilities account when moving out of Singapore

Key handover does not close your utilities account. End supply too early and the final clean may have no power or water; end it too late and you may fund post-handover use. Treat closure, the final bill, deposit refund and the next address as separate decisions.

Work backwards from key handover

T-7 to T-3Confirm key handover and the final cleaning window. Check your contact details, refund method and payment arrangement in the SP app/Portal.
T-3 to T-1Submit account closure with a suitable termination date. If you use piped gas, separately confirm City Energy termination and the applicable fee.
Handover dayAfter cleaning, photograph accessible meter readings, the home and key handover. Save the closure confirmation.
After final billCheck the final charges. SP offsets them against the security deposit, then refunds any credit balance through your preferred method.
Refund windowSP says to allow up to 30 business days for the refunded deposit. Use the confirmation and final bill to follow up if it remains outstanding.

Choose your move-out route

Leaving SingaporeClose the old account, ensure the refund method remains usable overseas, and download the final bill and confirmation.
Moving to a new homeClose the old account and open a new one; do not assume the address transfers automatically. Allow lead time for the new premise.
Landlord/main tenant owns the accountYou normally cannot close their account. Confirm your last chargeable day, meter evidence and final split in writing.
Home has piped gasSP closure does not make City Energy termination fee-free. SP says a gas termination fee applies; verify the current amount with City Energy.

How the money flows

  • Final usage and other final charges are settled first.
  • The security deposit offsets those charges; it is not automatically returned untouched.
  • Only the remaining credit balance is refunded through your preferred method.
  • GIRO is automatically terminated after final charges are deducted from the GIRO account. Do not rush to cancel it before checking the final-bill status.
  • Up to 30 business days is the official processing boundary, not a promise that every refund takes that long.

Copy this move-out checklist

  • Keep supply active through final cleaning/inspection
  • Save the SP closure confirmation and reference
  • Photograph final readings and handover condition
  • Keep access to the final-bill email
  • Use a refund method that remains available after departure
  • Contact City Energy separately for gas
  • Open a separate SP account for the new address
  • Follow up after 30 business days if refund is still missing

FAQ

Can I transfer my old SP account to a new address?

SP's moving-out flow separates closing the old account from opening a new account. Plan both so the old home is not cut off early and the new home is not left without lead time.

Will I receive the full deposit back?

Not necessarily. SP uses the security deposit to offset final charges and refunds only the remaining credit balance.

Should I cancel GIRO myself after closing?

SP states that the GIRO arrangement automatically ends after final charges are deducted from the GIRO account. Keep it in place until you verify the final bill.
