Singapore haze decision guide: PM2.5, PSI, clinic support and family checks (2026)

When haze readings move, the easy mistake is to rely on one number—or to treat online experiences as an official recommendation. NEA’s framework is more useful: use the latest 1-hour PM2.5 for the immediate activity and the 24-hour PSI forecast to plan ahead, then account separately for health status and outdoor duration.

Haze go / reduce / indoor gate

Read the latest official values first, then choose your situation. This tool makes no live request, stores nothing, and does not diagnose illness or replace official health advice.

Recheck immediately before leaving

Neither value triggered this tool’s conservative branch, but it is not a forecast or guarantee. Recheck official data just before departure; shorten or go indoors if values, smoke smell or symptoms change.

Turn readings into a same-day decision

StepPractical action
1. Read the current official valuesUse haze.gov.sg, NEA or myENV for your region’s 1-hour PM2.5 and 24-hour PSI. Do not substitute yesterday’s screenshot, an unofficial sensor or visibility alone.
2. Decide the next hourUse 1-hour PM2.5 for immediate activity. At Elevated or higher, shorten or move indoors—especially with children, older adults, pregnant people or people with heart/lung conditions.
3. Plan tomorrow or a long activityUse the 24-hour PSI forecast to plan ahead. At Unhealthy, NEA advises healthy people to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor exertion; sensitive groups should be more conservative.
4. When care may be neededThis is not a diagnosis page. For haze-related care, check MOH’s Haze Subsidy Scheme / PHPC eligibility and clinic list first; use emergency care channels for emergency symptoms.

Six checks for home, commute and family plans

  1. Read official values once before leaving and again at departure; conditions can change between the two checks.
  2. Keep a necessary commute to one destination and a direct route; avoid extra waiting at bus stops, outdoor dining or sport grounds.
  3. Pick an indoor anchor first: workplace, school, library, mall or community space, subject to actual opening/access.
  4. Do not apply a healthy adult’s plan unchanged to a child, older adult, pregnant person or someone with chronic heart/lung disease.
  5. If someone has prescribed medication, follow their clinician’s existing plan; this page does not choose or dose medicine.
  6. If planning a clinic visit, check identity/subsidy eligibility, clinic participation and opening hours. A subsidy does not remove the need to confirm service.

Do not turn these into conclusions

  • A smoke smell or a social post can prompt a recheck, but cannot replace official regional readings or health advice.
  • A better 1-hour PM2.5 reading does not automatically remove the planning significance of an Unhealthy 24-hour PSI for prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity.
  • Haze Subsidy Scheme eligibility, coverage and clinic availability are governed by current MOH/clinic information; this page does not promise care, wait time or cost.

FAQ

Why check both 1-hour PM2.5 and 24-hour PSI?

NEA says 1-hour PM2.5 is for immediate activity decisions, while the 24-hour PSI forecast is for planning ahead. They answer different time-horizon questions and are not substitutes.

Does an Unhealthy PSI mean nobody can go outside?

Do not reduce it to an absolute rule. NEA guidance distinguishes health status, intensity and duration; a necessary short trip is not the same decision as prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity. Check current official guidance and plan conservatively.

Who can use the Haze Subsidy Scheme?

MOH says all Singapore Citizens are eligible for HSS at polyclinics. Eligible groups at participating PHPCs include children 18 and below, adults 65 and above, and people in the announced assistance/CHAS groups. Confirm current eligibility, clinic participation and services with MOH and the clinic.

Official sources, scope and demand signal

Checked 15 October 2026. NEA/government haze pages anchor the distinct roles of 1-hour PM2.5 and 24-hour PSI and the public-health framework; MOH anchors HSS/PHPC activation and eligibility boundaries. Google News and public Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Xiaohongshu searches from the past 24–72 hours only identified demand around reading PM2.5/PSI, outdoor decisions, masks and indoor options. No posts, rankings, images or platform claims were copied.
